Overview of Industrial CT Testing Standards

Release time:2023-12-27Publisher:Jeenoce

Industrial CT is the abbreviation of industrial computer tomography imaging technology. The imaging method is to perform a cross-sectional scan of the workpiece and perform digital processing to provide a two-dimensional image of the true reflection of the internal structure of the workpiece. After measuring enough two-dimensional images of the fault, a certain image reconstruction algorithm is used to process the image and obtain a three-dimensional model, This model can intuitively reflect whether there are defects in the workpiece, the accurate location of damaged defects, and the size, distribution, and shape of its internal structure. Industrial CT systems are generally limited by the type, shape, structure, and surface condition of the test specimen, and can obtain two-dimensional or three-dimensional images corresponding to the geometric structure, material composition, and density characteristics of the test specimen. They have been widely used in aerospace, aviation, weapons, automotive manufacturing, petroleum, electronics, machinery, new energy, archaeology, and other fields.

Since 1999, China has established multiple national standards, military standards, and industry standards for industrial CT testing. There are currently over 40 standards related to industrial CT testing, including 4 international standards (ISO), 8 American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards, 20 national standards (GB), 3 national military standards (GJB), and 12 industry standards (HB, QJ, WJ, etc.). The types of standards include technical guidelines, testing methods, equipment performance testing methods, etc.

The national standards, military standards, and industry standards for industrial CT testing in China all stipulate the requirements for industrial CT testing personnel to obtain relevant qualification certificates, such as GB/T36232-2018 "Non destructive testing of welds - Industrial computer tomography (CT) testing methods for electron beam welded joints" and GJB5312-2004. When it comes to specific training and certification, each industry has its own characteristics. For example, the aviation, aerospace, and non-destructive testing societies classify the industrial CT profession as radiographic testing and provide training and certification according to radiographic testing RT (CT); The military industry currently adheres to the GJB9712A-2008 standard, with industrial CT certified separately; The Society for Non destructive Testing divides industrial CT technology into categories such as castings and welds, while industries such as aviation, aerospace, and military do not have any technical categories.
